What does a ₹2,000 a month SIP become?

Part of: Save & plan

By Vijay Singh Sinhmar · Fintech automation specialist, 8 years in finance · Published 2026-10-15

₹2,000 a month for 10 years is ₹2,40,000 put in. At example rates of 8%, 10% and 12% a year — illustrative, not a prediction — it grows to ₹3,68,331, ₹4,13,104 and ₹4,64,678. Over 20 years (₹4,80,000 put in) the same three rates give ₹11,85,894, ₹15,31,394 and ₹19,98,296. Real returns are not steady and can be negative; enter your own rate in the SIP calculator.

₹2,000 a month, year by year, at three example rates

Each column is the same ₹2,000 a month compounded at one steady example rate. The rates are there to show how much the outcome depends on the rate — they are not a forecast for any fund or market, and Muktify does not supply a rate of return. The gap between the 8% and 12% columns after 30 years is the honest headline.

How much of it is growth

After 20 years at the 10% example rate, ₹4,80,000 of the ₹15,31,394 is what you put in and ₹10,51,394 is compounding. Growth overtakes contributions in the later years because each year's growth is applied to a larger balance.

Five more years, or twice the amount?

At the 10% example rate, ₹2,000 a month for 25 years comes to ₹26,75,781; ₹4,000 a month for 20 years comes to ₹30,62,788. Time enters the formula as an exponent, which is why the comparison is closer than doubling the amount suggests. Which is possible for you is your own decision.

Why these are example rates, not ours

Muktify is an educational calculator, not a SEBI-registered adviser. The 8%, 10% and 12% a year columns are a spread chosen to show sensitivity, illustrative, not a prediction, and none of them is a claim about what any investment will deliver. The SIP calculator runs the same arithmetic at a rate you choose.

The amounts either side

₹1,000 a month for 20 years at the 10% example rate comes to ₹7,65,697. ₹3,000 a month for 20 years at the 10% example rate comes to ₹22,97,091. Every amount from ₹500 to ₹1,00,000 a month is on one table on the SIP-by-amount page.

Is the SIP amount guaranteed?

No. The figures are arithmetic on a constant example rate. Market-linked investments move year to year and can fall, so an actual statement will differ from every column here.
