Saving, emergency funds and retirement in India
Where your money stands today, and what saving each month adds up to. The first question needs no assumptions at all; the later ones rest on a rate of growth that you choose.

The basics
Start with how long your money would last
Divide the savings you could reach quickly by what leaves your account each month. The result is how many months you could cover with no income, and it needs no assumption about growth.
An emergency fund is about reach
Money in a provident fund, or in the home you live in, counts towards net worth but is hard to reach in a hurry, so it is left out of an emergency figure.
Every projection rests on a growth figure you choose
What a monthly saving grows to, or when work becomes optional, depends on a rate of growth. Muktify never supplies one: you type your own assumption, and every result built on it is an estimate.
