₹50,00,000 in a fixed deposit, by term and rate

Each column is the same ₹50,00,000 at one example rate, a spread around what bank term-deposit cards showed in October 2026. Rates differ by bank, term and age and change often, so the rate on your own deposit offer is the one that counts.

Tax and TDS on the interest

FD interest is taxed at your slab rate in the year it accrues, even on a cumulative deposit that pays nothing until maturity. At the 7% example rate, ₹50,00,000 earns ₹3,59,295 of interest in the first year. That is above the ₹50,000 a year at which a bank deducts TDS (₹1,00,000 for senior citizens), so expect a deduction on your Form 26AS.

Cumulative or payout, and when it doubles

At the 7% example rate the deposit first reaches double — ₹1,00,00,000 — after 10 years. A payout FD that pays interest out each quarter instead does not compound: over 5 years it pays about ₹17,50,000 in total against ₹20,73,891 for the cumulative deposit.

The amounts either side

An FD of ₹20,00,000 for 3 years at the 7% example rate is worth ₹24,62,879. Every amount from ₹50,000 to ₹50,00,000 is on one table on the FD-by-amount page.

Frequently asked questions

What is an FD of ₹50,00,000 worth after 5 years?

₹69,02,099 at 6.5%, ₹70,73,891 at 7% or ₹72,49,740 at 7.5% a year (example rates, not a quote), compounded quarterly and before tax.

₹3,33,008 to ₹3,85,679 at example rates of 6.5% to 7.5% a year, compounded quarterly. Your bank's own rate gives the exact figure in the FD calculator.

Which FD rate does this page use?

Three example rates, 6.5%, 7% and 7.5% a year, a spread around bank cards in October 2026. Muktify does not quote or compare banks; the FD calculator takes your own rate.

Is FD interest taxable?

Yes, at your slab rate in the year it accrues. A bank deducts TDS once its interest to you passes ₹50,000 in a year, or ₹1,00,000 for a senior citizen.
